Nathan Stitziel, MD, PhD

Principal Investigator. Associate Professor of Medicine and Genetics.

Nathan is a general cardiologist and human geneticist. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Genetics, a member of the Scientific Leadership Council of the McDonnell Genome Institute, and Director of the Center for Cardiovascular Genetics all at the Washington University School of Medicine. After obtaining a B.A. in Mathematics and Physics from Washington University, Nathan received his M.D. degree and Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from the University of Illinois. He completed Internal Medicine training at the University of Chicago in the Physician Scientist Development Program followed by advanced clinical training in Cardiology and Cardiovascular Genetics at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He then completed a combined postdoctoral research fellowship in Cardiovascular Genetics at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Broad Institute, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He joined the faculty at Washington University in fall of 2012. Using a variety of techniques in human genetics and genomics, his lab is interested in understanding the inherited basis of Mendelian and complex forms of cardiovascular disease.
